COEQWAL Equitable CA Water

Abr 26, 2024

COEQWAL, the Collaboratory for Equity in Water Allocation, aims to provide safe and clean water to everyone who relies on California’s water system, which is one of the largest water systems globally. This project includes research participation from multiple Universities of California and California State University Sacramento with further collaboration from state and federal agencies, Native American Tribes, community groups, and non-governmental organizations.

The main goals of COEQWAL are:

  • Building a water allocation data library
  • Addressing California water resilience priorities through use-case applications
  • Creating the COEQWAL data dashboard and visualization tools
  • Build networks and provide training for workforce development

To best address each project goal, researchers and collaborators are divided into various focus groups, each with individualized milestones and deliverables to help work towards the desired outcomes of the project as a whole. These focus groups include teams for: Leadership, Climate and Hydrology, Water Allocations, Community Engagement, Data Management, Data Visualization and User Interface, Salinity Management Use Case, Drinking Water Use Case, Chinook Salmon Recovery Use Case, Education, and an Advisory Group. The Water Systems Management Lab at UC Merced is a part of the Water Allocations Team.
