Jeanette Cobian
Professor and Researcher
Jeanette Cobian-Iñiguez, Ph.D., is an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of California, Merced. Prior to her current role, she was a postdoctoral scholar at the University of California, Berkeley, focusing on smoldering fire behavior in simulated wildland fuels. Dr. Cobian-Iñiguez completed her Ph.D. at the University of California, Riverside, and her M.S. from Cal State LA as an LSAMP Bridge to the Doctorate Fellow. She also holds a B.S. from UC San Diego.
Her research interests lie in advancing the fundamental science of fire behavior in wildlands through controlled experiments and contributing to applied science in wildfire behavior using remote sensing and data science. Dr. Cobian-Iñiguez is also deeply involved in community and K-12 outreach, with a focus on bilingual science communication and encouraging STEM careers among future generations. She co-organizes the interdisciplinary California Fire Science Seminar series.
